Sidney Crosby (concussion/neck) was on the ice for about an hour Friday. Crosby also traveled with the Penguins to Boston so he could skate before Saturday's game. There's no timetable for Crosby's return, but this is a very encouraging sign.

Claude Giroux is being asked to shoot more by his teammates and coach. "I'm trying to shoot, but at the same time, I know if I make the pass to those guys, it's going to be in the back of the net," Giroux said. He does have 136 shots on goal in 46 games, which puts him on pace to shatter his career-high of 169. Giroux is also second in the NHL with 57 points in 46 games, so what he's doing right now is clearly getting results. That all being said, Giroux had a 12-game goalless streak going into Thursday's game and it took an empty net to end that slump. He's capable of doing better than that and he should in the final two months of the season.

Zenon Konopka played against his former team on Friday, the New York Islanders, for the first time since he inked a one-year deal with the Senators over the summer. Konopka spent two minutes in the sin bin for hooking and recorded two hits. "There are a lot of different emotions there, positive and negative," said Konopka. "You use whatever motivation you can over 82 games." Has a league-leading 161 penalty minutes in 47 games this season.
